Traversing the realms of emotional aggression contrasted by musical creativity, San Francisco Bay Area band Unjust is a lush atmosphere of haunting melodies, explosive ambience, expansive keyboards, and mind-expanding vocals. Originated in 1990, the band was the brainchild of two (then) 13-year old school friends, vocalist/guitarist Paul Mendoza and guitarist Russell Tabayoyon. Fueled by their youthful vitality and rebellious confidence, Unjust created a stir in the Bay Area music scene, creating a solid reputation for their explosive onstage performances and dynamic appeal. Yet like a double-edged sword, Unjust received very little press outside the local music scene due to their age. This drove the band to become more determined and focused than ever before.
Led by the hands of fate, Unjust continued to create heartfelt music while playing tremendous live shows that continuously added new followers to their strong and loyal fanbase. During this period, Unjust met up with the final pieces to their puzzle. From the band Nueairea came the explosive talents of drummer Brian Palkowski, while the experience and precision of former Heathen, Pirahna, and Laughing Dead bassist, Eric Wong, joined collectively with keyboardist and Mac user Thom Tucker (Impact) to create a dynamic syntax of colliding forces.
Combining their vast range of musical influences and creative visions into a dynamic collective, Unjust released their debut album, Thin Line Emotions, in March 1999 through Dutch label Mascot Records. Though limited to just a European release, Unjust received rave reviews from the likes of Kerrang! and Terrorizer, fueled by their performance at the Dynamo Open Aire Festival in Holland. Following the release, the band went on a tear, unleashing their energy and aggression on any audience that would dare to experience them, opening new avenues of exposure. This included notice from gaming giant EA Sports, who included Unjust's song, "Searching Eyes," on their top-selling Playstation game, Road Rash 4.
Since then, the band has kept a high Internet profile with their popular underground Web site (www.unjust.com), was rated the #1 unsigned act of 2001 on Shoutweb.com, rated the #2 unsigned act of 2001 on Loudside.com, and is a 3-time Live 105 radio Cage Match winner for their single “Come Feel Me” from their current album, Makeshift Grey. Their music video for "Come Feel Me" is currently playing on MTV in most European countries, while the band continues to receive excellent press in Europe for the album, including 10X dynamite in Rock Hard and KKK1/2 in Kerrang!.
“Tired” is Unjust's new single, cut as a demo for an upcoming album, and now a Live 105 radio 3-time Cage Match winner as well. The band also beat out other local Bay Area bands to snag the opening spot at the 2002 California Music Awards, which included performances by Papa Roach, Smashmouth, Joe Satriani, Sammy Hagar, and other prominent music artists, and was broadcast live on the UPN network.
